Paint Your Own Parties & Ladies’ Nights

I’ve felt very privileged lately to be a part of some wonderful ladies’ pottery painting evenings, hen parties and children’s parties.

The great thing about pottery painting is that some really simple decoration techniques such as sponges and stencils give a great look, and equally if you want to let your creative energies flow, there are no boundaries! I have various samples and techniques that I can show you (I love spending time experimenting with different ways to apply paint and pattern!)

One of the ladies who painted a plate recently is Swedish and used a fantastic Swedish word as the focus of her plate – “Fika” meaning a break for a coffee and a cinnamon bun!

I can come to your home, group or party venue to do a pottery painting session – prices from ยฃ10 per person. Please do get in touch if you are interested.

I can also provide “DIY” pottery painting kits. I recently made up a “bunting kit” for a baby shower where each person made a star to thread on a ribbon to make a bunting string for the new baby – the results are in the photos below – so special!

Hand & Footprints Spring 2017

I feel really lucky that I have job where I can help to create ย precious memories at such a special time in parents’ lives. I recently created imprints for baby twins and also for some very tiny newborns, which I loved! I try my very best to make the experience of having your baby’s prints taken a relaxed and pleasurable one!

Happy New Year

In the weeks leading up to Christmas it felt a lot like Santa’s workshop here at 2Spots! It’s been lovely to be a part of so many special presents and I’m sure there must have been lots of happy faces when the gifts were opened.

Hand and footprint baubles were very popular in 2016 as were various Christmas related designs created from hand, foot and finger prints. My personal favourite is still a robin made using a toddler’s thumbprint or a baby’s big toe print and with the mum or dad’s fingerprint as the red chest.

It’s also been great to make personalised pottery gifts – last year, among other things, I was asked to make some family wall hangings and some lace bunting which were a real pleasure to create. My adult pottery classes also made lots of fantastic Christmas decorations and gifts that I’m sure were well received.

Thank you to all my lovely 2Spots customers for your support in 2016 and I look forward to making some more creations with you in 2017.

I will leave you with a selection of photos of some recent creations.

Handprint and Footprints for Christmas

Before I started 2Spots I found it very hard to even think about Christmas before December, but now I find myself making Christmas stock before the Summer holidays, and by the time October comes, I feel that it is nearly here! It’s great that my some of my customers have started thinking about it early too, as I have already completed some Christmas orders which is a relief as I’m now really busy with appointments and the time between now and Christmas feels very short when I work out how many making hours there are and how many kiln firings I can squeeze in!!

Imprints and my handmade ceramics all involve two firings, and each takes 48 hours between turning the kiln on and being able to open it when it has cooled down. Added to this is drying time and glazing time, so it’s not a quick process. Consequently, my last date for imprints with a Christmas delivery is 23rd November and for painted pottery is 12th December. Appointments are filling fast so if you would like some items made for Christmas, please get in touch ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve put together a gallery of photos of some of this years work and last year’s Christmas orders to hopefully give you some Christmas gift ideas.

New 2Spots Tableware Range

Over recent months I have been working hard to make some new glaze colours and combinations and some new jug shapes. It’s been a long journey with lots of delights and frustrations along the way. Anyway, I’m excited to say that I have created some tableware that I’m really pleased with and I do hope you like it too.

My children have had fun naming the colour schemes and think the whole range should be based on sweets (I wonder why?) so far we have “bubblegum”, “rhubarb & custard” and “sherbert lemon” and I think they have probably got it spot on!

Having my own business has been a massive learning curve and I joke to friends and family regularly about having to wear so many different hats! One hat that I have found particularly difficult to wear has been my photographer hat! I’m really lucky that my friend Jenny from Jenny Owens Photography has taken some wonderful photos for me for my website but I was very concious that I needed to be able to take my own photos too. Photographer and friend Dave Gibbons gave me a crash course on how to use my camera to take photos of my work which was incredibly useful and I have been trying very hard to get some good photos of my new product range. My dedication to the cause was so great that I took my new pots on holiday to Dorset to find a good setting and to get additional photography help from family members!!

Well enough of my rambling, here are some pictures of my new products and my attempt to improve my photos! Oh and, last but definitely not least please come and see my new pots in person at my Open House on Thursday 29th September ๐Ÿ™‚ x

Adult Pottery Classes

I have been loving running my short pottery courses for adults. So far we have created dishes, wall hangings, vases, jugs, decorations and house numbers ………… and other things besides!

It has been great to see how people’s ideas have developed and everything made has been different. I am so impressed with all the creations produced so far.

Here is a selection of photos showing the work at various stages.

I will be running more courses in September and October. Please let me know if you would like to book a place. More details can be found at www.2spots.co.uk/events

Clay Club

The children at my Clay Club have created some wonderful work over the Summer Term. Their ages range from Year 2 to Year 6 and they have been a great group that have worked well together and supported each other. I ran two five week projects: one with the theme of “Tiles & Wall-Hangings” and they chose their second topic to be “Creatures & Characters”.

With both topics the work the children produced was really imaginative but there was significantly more challenging work in the “Creatues and Charaters” topic where thier chosen pieces ranged from the BFG to the Statue of Liberty! However they all rose to the challenge and I am so impressed with what they managed to achieve.

My new website & my first blog post on it!

Welcome to the 2Spots Ceramics Blog where I will be keeping you updated on what I have been up to and letting you know of my forthcoming events.

Getting my website up together and trying to get up to (some kind of) speed with social media was number 1 on my jobs to do for 2016, so it’s a great feeling to think that I will have achieved at least one goal this year ๐Ÿ™‚

2Spots can now be found on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook and I will be doing my best to keep these up to date and interesting!!

Thank you to Fiona at Skinny Panda Design for my new 2Spots Logo and website and to Jenny at Jenny Owens Photography for the lovely photos she has taken for me.

Over the next few days/weeks/months (!?) I will be adding to my gallery pages on my website. So far, you can find a selection of my baby hand and footprint work and also a gallery of the fantastic things that the children from my school Clay Club have been making. I have also just started some evening pottery classes for adults so I will be able to add some pictures of their fantastic plaques, tiles and wall hangings soon.
